About us

Our Story – a long standing tradition of service

At Fred Lind Manor, you’ll quickly recognize our simple and clear commitment to serving Seattle’s seniors…  after all, we’ve been at it since 1944! People tell us all the time, ‘there’s just something that feels good about this place.”‘ Perhaps it’s the fact that we’re a non-profit-organization or perhaps it is the rock-solid foundation we’ve built over the past six decades, but the difference is palpable.

the orignal Fred Lind ManorWhile today our building stretches the entire length of the block and is home to 82 apartments, our well-respected retirement community has very humble beginnings. Fred Lind Manor was first established in 1944 by Seattle’s Baptist community and was housed in a historic mansion, thanks in part to a generous donation from Mr. Lind himself. For many years the mansion served as an inviting residence for older adults and was praised for ‘being a home and not an institution.’

By 1988, the board had acquired the remaining properties along our block. The aging mansion was replaced with the four-story Victorian-style building that you see today. Over the past six decades, Fred Lind Manor has progressively expanded its reach to serve all of Seattle’s seniors. Today we honor our faith-based heritage simply by creating a community that welcomes and respects each individual.
